Ese concepto se conoce como \u201caumento del requerimiento de octano\u201d (abreviado ORI por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s). Esto puede provocar los ruidos de \u201cdetonaciones y tintineos\u201d que tal vez oiga cuando acelera. El problema es que las detonaciones y tintineos tal vez no sean audibles para el conductor, ya que muchos motores modernos est\u00e1n equipados con sensores de detonaciones. Estos sensores detectan las detonaciones y ajustan el ritmo del veh\u00edculo para detenerlas. Estos ajustes permiten que el motor haga menos ruido, pero tienen un precio, ya que pueden llevar a una aceleraci\u00f3n m\u00e1s lenta y un escaso ahorro de combustible.
